The discovery of the former impact of this new asteroid is dubbed the Nadir Crater. Its position is more than 300 meters below the seabed, about 400km off the coast of Guinea, west Africa.
The diameter of the crater is about 8.5 km. The asteroid that formed this crater is probably less than half a kilometer in size.
The hidden crater was discovered by Dr Uisdean Nicholson from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, England.
