The riddle of the century – what happened to a German submarine found at the Press House

German submarine in Riga! This is not news from World War II, but from 1995. At the end of that year, a small submarine of German saboteurs was probably found in the Zunda canal near the Press House in Riga, which had been trapped there in the second half of 1944. The news of this discovery is very scanty, and many of the people interviewed by Delfi do not even remember such cases. The submarine was found, and then it mysteriously disappeared.

Unless there was a publication in the magazine “Klubs” about finding a submarine in January 1996, it could be said that all this is imagination and rumor. When the Delfi portal flipped through the press archive of that time, it was not possible to find news about the submarine found elsewhere.

The publication in the club “Klubs” is rather vague, and the information provided in it is vague. “By clearing the Zunda canal, which separates Ķīpsala from Pārdaugava, the workers here have found German reconnaissance water near the Press House, which has apparently been lying in Zunda since the Second World War,” the publication reads. The article below quotes the supervisor Nikolai Fionov, without mentioning what structure or company he represents.
