The Rhône Placed on Drought Alert: Restrictive Measures Implemented for Water Conservation

The Rhône has been placed on drought alert.

Given the insufficient balance of the last rainfall and after a dry winter, the Rhône prefecture decided this Friday to place all the resources of the Saône axis, eastern Lyon and the northern and western territories of the department in a drought alert situation. This decision reinforces the vigilance measures taken by the decree of April 12, 2023.

In this context, the prefect of the Rhône, Fabienne Buccio, calls “citizens to be very vigilant about the use of our water resources”.

Restrictive measures have been taken and will be taken wherever necessary in order to guarantee the priority uses of health, civil security and the supply of drinking water.

In particular, it becomes forbidden to water public or private green spaces during the day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., to water domestic vegetable gardens during the day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., to fill private swimming pools, to wash vehicles privately at home or yet to wash the facades and roofs.

Agents from the French Office for Biodiversity will be deployed in the territory to provide education on these measures and to sanction infringements if necessary.“, specify the services of the State.
