Since the mentioned year 2017, the start-up Boom Supersonic has presented over 50 versions of its supersonic aircraft Overture. The current one has 65 to 80 seats, and the company hopes to begin commercial operations by 2030, the Independent reports. The original three engines have been replaced by four smaller ones, the machine is also supposed to have revolutionary technology that will make it much quieter.

The innovation also received wings that are supposed to resemble a seagull. Thanks to them, the plane will have more stability, but it will also be able to gain more speed. According to the company, this should be up to 2100 kilometers per hour, which corresponds to 1.7 Mach number (this indicates the ratio of the speed of movement of a body through a certain environment to the speed of sound propagation in the same environment).

Maximum speed over oceans
“Aviation hasn’t experienced a giant leap in decades. Overture is revolutionary in design and will fundamentally change the way we think about distances,” says Boom Supersonic CEO and founder Blake Scholl. “With more than 600 routes across the planet, Overture will make the world much more accessible for tens of millions of travelers,” says Scholl.

The machine would fly faster than sound over oceans, slowing down over land. Supersonic aircraft are banned in many countries because of the aerodynamic bang, a sound effect resembling an explosion.

Boom Supersonic promises that, for example, a trip from London to New York or vice versa would take only 3.5 hours, which is about 4.5 hours less than before. From Sydney to Los Angeles, passengers would then travel up to five hours less, namely 8.5 hours.
