In that season and a half, Smith Jr shared the locker room with Dirk Nowitzkinow close to retirement. The anecdote told by the player involves the German legend, who still owes him the beauty of 10.000$.
“Dirk owes me $10,000. We were talking to each other one day, saying, ‘There’s no way Dirk is that slow.’ So we organized a competition. The agreement was that Dirk would start from the middle of the field and I from the baseline, to see who came first on the other side of the field. I won the race, but he still has to pay me. I keep telling him, ‘Dirk, don’t make me come to your house to collect the money.’ He laughs, but I’m serious! I want my $10,000!” Smith Jr. said.
