The Return of the Mitsubishi Colt – A Renault Clio in Disguise

The Mitsubishi Colt, once available not only as a hatchback, but even as a hardtop convertible, is making a comeback. However, let’s not expect an open version – similarly to the ASX model, the colt is a Renault Clio with a slightly modified design and new logos.

As with the ASX, the changes in appearance are limited to the front of the car. Specifically, there is a new grille and modified graphics of the vertical parts of the headlights in the corners of the car. On the back, we see the Mitsubishi lettering instead of the logo; the lights here remained the same.

In the interior, there are even fewer changes compared to the clio – basically it’s just logos and a few inscriptions here and there. This means that the car will receive all Renault on-board systems, including infotainment connected to the Internet and supporting Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

There will be two versions of the central display – 7.3″ or 9″. A wireless smartphone charger or a Bose audio system with a subwoofer will also be among the features of the higher models. The display in the place of the instrument panel will also have a different diagonal depending on the equipment version – 7″ or 10″.

In terms of electronic equipment, there will be automatic emergency braking, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane keeping function, traffic monitoring behind the vehicle or traffic sign recognition.

Brief technical data
Motorization Power and torque Consumption Acceleration to 100 km/h/top speed
1,0 MPI 49 kW (67 hp)/95 Nm 5.3-5.4 l/100km 17,1 s/160 km/h
1,0 MPI-T 67 kW (91 hp)/160 Nm 5.2-5.3 l/100km 12,2 s/180 km/h
1,6 HEV 105 kW (143 hp) 4.2-4.5 l/100km 9,3 s/180 km/h

Two versions of an in-line three-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of one liter will work in the guts, one atmospheric, the other with a turbocharger. The top of the range will be a hybrid that combines a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor. All internal combustion engines have indirect fuel injection.

The Colt will be produced just like the clio in Bursa, Turkey from September this year, so let’s wait for the market entry sometime in the fall.
