/VIDEO/ The MotoGP Grand Prix returns to Brno again. After a five-year hiatus, the Masaryk Circuit will again host World Motorcycle Championship races from 2025. See what atmosphere, which made the Brno race world famous, around the track and what kind of battles the best motorcycle riders had on the track during the last years in front of the packed stands of fans.

It was August 2019. The Brno Grand Prix of the Czech Republic Road Motorcycle World Championship once again attracted tens of thousands of people to the stands of the Masaryk circuit. And in front of a boisterous fan backdrop, the world’s best competitors demonstrated their horsemanship on the track. Remind yourself of the best shots in Deník’s rich photo gallery. Both from the race track and to the blasted and boisterously cheering stands.

Little did anyone know that this was the last time people would enjoy the world’s elite racing from the stands with their own eyes. The next edition of 2020 was already only a swan song heralding the end of the series in the Czech Republic. The restrictions associated with covid did not allow the spectators to the stands, who sadly watched from behind the fences as the competitors said goodbye to the Masaryk circuit in front of an empty auditorium. “Given the current situation, I understand the race without spectators. We will keep the tickets for the next year, we will not ask for a refund,” said Lubomír Samko, an annual visitor to the event four years ago.

No one, not even he, knew then how long or if it was the last time.

Here’s a look at what the Grand Prix looked like with masks and without spectators:
