Although there has been no confirmation from AlphaTauri itself, Daniel Ricciardo seems to have already announced his return. It would mean the end of his replacement, Liam Lawson’s run of racing weekends.
Opposite The Athletic Ricciardo was short and concise when he was asked about a possible return during the race weekend in the United States next weekend. “Yes, I’m back. I’m looking forward to it.” However, there is no official confirmation from AlphaTauri yet. Ricciardo appeared to have broken a metacarpal bone during his third race weekend since his return as replacement for Nyck de Vries. This happened during the second free practice of the race weekend in Zandvoort, during a crash in which he tried to avoid crashing into Oscar Piastri. The Australian was replaced by Lawson, who would impress, taking points twice and even beating Yuki Tsunoda on three of the five race weekends.

Return of Ricciardo
This series is now coming to an end. There was already a good chance that Ricciardo would return this season, specifically next weekend in Texas. The Australian has managed to secure a seat at AlphaTauri for 2024 alongside Tsunoda, at the expense of Lawson. In that respect, the last five races of 2023, starting with the upcoming triple header (with two sprint races), will be all about further recovery for Ricciardo and – for the second time this season – getting back into racing rhythm . He is doing this partly this weekend by participating in a Red Bull Racing event in Nashville.
