With the easing of travel restrictions, Chinese tourists are returning to popular destinations like Thailand, Croatia, Egypt, and Italy. In Thailand, Chinese visitors accounted for the majority of customers for some small businesses before the pandemic, and their return is helping to boost the local economy. The number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand has increased 30-fold from the same period last year. The same trend can be seen in other countries, with bookings for overseas tours from the Chinese mainland increasing by more than 18 times year-on-year. Italy is already seeing huge benefits from the return of Chinese tourists, and hopes to attract even more by investing in the Chinese digital ecosystem and social media platforms to promote new destinations. This is good news for the global economy, as Forbes reports that China was the largest contributor to outbound tourism, with 170 million trips, and brought in $253 billion.
