The Retirement of Eden Hazard: A Tribute from Diego Costa and Reflections on a Stellar Career

After several years without really being at his best level, Eden Hazard, the former captain of Belgium, decided to terminate his contract with Real Madrid. After several weeks of reflection, he finally decided to end his career at just 32 ans. Since then, several testimonies have multiplied to salute the career of a balloon genius. The last one to take part in the game was Diego Costa with a sarcastic tone.

Permanently injured, Eden Hazard concluded on Tuesday October 10 a 16-year career rich in club triumphs, but with unfulfilled promises as a member of Belgium’s golden generation. Several of his former teammates therefore decided to say goodbye to him, including Diego Costa.

For several years, Eden Hazard and the Brazilian striker formed a formidable duo at Chelsea. Naturally, Hazard’s retirement did not leave Costa indifferent. He also paid for it a personal tribute on their social networks.

“It was a great pleasure playing with you, my brother.”

Costa began his message.

Costa concluded his post with beer and burger emojis, as well as a laughing face. This means that there will no longer be too many restrictions as the life of a high-level player imposes.

The legacy of Eden Hazard

The former player for teams such as Lille, Chelsea et Real Madrid decided he wasn’t ready for a new challenge. He is therefore retiring after a career where he was a world reference in the 2010s.

You have to know how to listen to yourself and say “enough” at the right time. After 16 years of career and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer. I was able to realize my dream: to play and have fun on the fields of Europe and the world. During my career, I have met great people, managers, coaches, teammates and I would particularly like to thank the clubs I played for: LOSC Lille, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and of course, I thank the Belgian national team again.”

said the former Madrid player.

At 32, Hazard terminated his contract with Real Madrid on the 1st June 2023. His career at Madrid was preceded by a successful spell at Chelsea, where he he lived his best moments during the seven seasons he spent there.

Before that, he excelled in Lille which allowed him to rise to the top of European football. He won the French championship title, twice the Premier League with Chelsea and twice the La Liga with Madrid.

Although his performances at the Bernabéu is far from his best levelwon his only Champions League in 2022. He also won a Copa del Rey, a Spanish Super Cup and a European Super Cup with Madrid.

Hazard wore the Belgian national team jersey in 126 times, scoring 33 goals. He was a key part of Belgium’s golden generation that finished third at the 2018 World Cup and competed with the world’s best players at that and other championships. Although France tried to attract him, Hazard chose to represent Belgium thus becoming one of the best footballers in its history.

Recently, it was rumored that Hazard could join Botafogo, join the MLS or even return to Belgium. However, Belgian football’s financial fair play rules made things difficult. He also received offers from Spain, but none fully satisfied him.

SO, like Gareth Bale decided to retire early, just after his thirtieth birthday, much earlier than many would have expected.
