NAM DINH – Thailand U-23 National Team oppose Malaysian National Team U-23 in Group B SEA Games 2021. This match took place at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh, Vietnam, Saturday (7/5/2022), night WIB.
Thailand U-23 and Malaysia U-23 struggled to get the first points at the 2021 SEA Games. However, Malaysia U-23 performed better so they could win 2-1 despite falling behind first.
The course of the match
First round
Appearing in yellow and black costumes, the Malaysian U-23 troops played tight from the start. They took the initiative to attack and put the War Elephant in a bit of trouble.
However, Thailand U-23 did not want to be silent, Chakkrit and colleagues gave fierce resistance. The 10th minute, the War Elephant troops counterattacked and opened a golden opportunity through Ekanit.
Ekanit dribbled from the left side into the Malaysian penalty box, then fired hard into a tight corner, but was saved by Malaysian goalkeeper Azri AB Ghani. After that opportunity, Thailand U-23 then controlled the game and created many chances.
Thanks to his hard work, Thailand U-23 was finally able to score a goal through Patrick Gustafsson’s sweet flick (33′). He swerved past two young Malayan Harimau defenders, then slotted the ball into Azri’s goal. The score was changed 1-0 for Thailand U-23.
Responding to the goal, the Malayan Tigers immediately counterattacked. However, the efforts of Brad Maloney’s squad could still be thwarted by the Thailand U-23 defense.
In the 42nd minute, Thailand U-23 defender Jonathan Khemdee was given a red card after tackling Syahir Bashah who was going to face one on one with goalkeeper, Kawin. However, the opportunity was lost. The score was still 1-0 for the young War Elephant advantage at half time.
Second round
At the beginning of the second half, Malaysia U-23 immediately stepped on the gas to attack to equalize. Thanks to his efforts, they scored through Danial Asri (60′). He got a sweet pass from Mukhairi Ajmal and immediately scored the ball hard right in front of the goal unmarked.
The score became the same as 1-1 and the match was fierce. Both teams took turns getting a number of opportunities. Until several players between the two teams were replaced, chances after opportunities continued to be created.
However, until the 75th minute, the score had not changed, it was still 1-1 for both teams. Both the War Elephant and the Malayan Tiger, slightly lower the tempo of the game while building attacks.
Malaysia U-23 actually almost scored a goal in the 81st minute through a hard header from player number 9. Unfortunately, the ball still rose slightly above Kawin’s crossbar.
Shown with 10 players, Thailand U-23 seems a little difficult in this second half. As a result, the Malayan Tigers looked more dominant in controlling the match in the final minutes.
The Malayan tiger was finally able to win the match dramatically. Azfar Fikri (90+4′) scored in the last minute. The score became 2-1 for a dramatic victory for Malaysia U-23.
