The results of the IDC 2023 • La Nación

The Private Competitiveness Council and the Universidad del Rosario presented this week the results of the Departmental Competitiveness Index, IDC, for the 32 departments of the country and the city of Bogotá.

The version of this ranking becomes important as a result of the current political and economic situation, since its results show the management of outgoing regional leaders and offer a point of reference for incoming administrations. In that order of ideas, the report is a great tool for those who are elected next October to know what the strengths and weaknesses of the regions are and define specific goals and objectives.

Just as a company stands out for its ability to offer a good product or an excellent service and to implement strategies to maintain itself, regions are also measured by their environment. In this order of ideas, the IDC is key to knowing how a department is doing in issues such as safety, health, education, environmental sustainability, technology adoption, labor market and innovation, among others.

For this reason, it is worth looking carefully at the results of the IDC, in which Huila registers a score of 4.92 out of 10, with which it was placed in twelfth position in the general ranking.

In particular, the department stands out, for example, in the indicators of net coverage in primary and secondary education, scores in the Saber 11 tests in official schools and teachers of official schools with postgraduate studies. And it concentrates its main opportunities for improvement in the pillars of higher education and training for work and innovation in which it registers scores of 3.19 and 2.15, respectively. It is obvious that Huila must work more on technical and technological training coverage and on the quality of higher education teachers.

Hopefully, those who run in the October elections take a look at the IDC 2023 so that they understand how Huila is really doing and where it is going.
