Ukraine’s national football team’s application for participation in the test match against France includes a goalkeeper who finished his career in 2016 Oleksandr Shovkovsky, reports the Ukrainian Football Federation.

The match between the two national units will take place today at 22:10 Latvian time. Previously, the Covid-19 tests of goalkeepers Andrejs Luņins and Yuri Pankiv have turned out to be positive, so both are isolated from the team. There is only one goalkeeper left in the national team – Georgy Bushan. The match will take place away, which prevents the team from urgently attracting another goalkeeper. This has led to a situation where the reserve goalkeeper will be assistant coach Shovkovsky.

During his career, from 1993 to 2016, Shovkovsky represented the Kiev Dynamo. The footballer played 635 matches in the Ukrainian Grand Goal, in which 469 were admitted golus. He defended the goal of the Ukrainian national team in 92 games, in which his opponents beat him 77 times.

Shovkovsky is the 14th time Ukrainian champion, who has been recognized as the best goalkeeper in the country nine times.

Shovkovsky played with the national team in the quarterfinals of the 2006 World Cup. With Dynamo in 1998/1999. reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in the 2008/2009 season, but in 2008/2009. in the semi – final of the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League).
