The results of the 2023 municipal elections in Brothers confirm the victory of the PSOE and make a left-wing government possible, provided that the formation led by Maria Jesus Serrano close the government pact with Izquierda Unida.
The Socialists are winners and have 7 councilors (they win 2 compared to 2019), while the Popular Party remains the second most voted force with 5 councilors (it had 4). Izquierda Unida takes three seats in the municipal plenary session, in which Vox bursts in with two councilors. Ciudadanos loses its three councilors and is left without representation in the plenary session of Baena.
Sound results, because everything was possible in Baena, where five candidates opted for the Mayor’s Office -the candidates of the PSOE, PP, IU, CS and Vox-. The mayor for the PSOE, Maria Jesus Serranoreturned to local politics to try to wrest the position of mayor from Cristina Piernagorda, of the PP, who together with Cs has been governing the town for the last four years, after reaching an agreement in extremis with the Independientes formation for Baena and Albendín ( Iporba), already practically disappeared.

Of the 17 councilors of the Baenense plenary, the Socialists obtained five, with 27.21% of the votes; while the PP got four, with 21.6%; IU obtained three, with 19.52%; the same figure as Cs, with 17.98% support; and Iporba obtained two, with 12.82%.
The PP has co-governed Baena for the last four years together with citizens and it has been a legislature in which the shadow of misunderstanding between the two formations has always been present. They began to govern with the agreement that the PP would govern for two years and the following two Cs, but when they lost the support of Iforbe and not have those of citizens the guaranteed support has finally been the popular ones who have stayed with the mayor’s office throughout the legislature.
After the results of this Sunday, If the PSOE and Izquierda Unida reach an understanding, the socialist María Jesús Serrano will be able to governas both formations bring together ten councilors, exceeding the majority that is set at nine.
