“It is a colossal feeling and a great joy that the people of Nītaure are able to gather in such large numbers and have a nice time together,” says Rihards Vītols, the organizer of the event, head of the Nītaure House of Culture, about the “Big Games Night” that took place last weekend.

“Around the scheduled start time, there were few people, it seemed that the number of teams would have to be rescheduled, but people kept coming and coming until there were around 65 participants, not including the youngest ones, who were allocated a special activity corner. Many thanks to the company “Meistariņš” for that. It must be said that there were also visitors, which was also a pleasure. A huge thank you to the helpful and excellent team: Ines and Marek Ismailov, Maira Prikul, Sanita Lemiesi, Evita Sloka, Livija ĺaučīte, Ieva Kaminska, Ines Sergeeva and many others, without whom this event would not have been possible. Many thanks to the management of the Nītaure school and teacher Eriks Bauer for the games and “Mežezera” sparkling drink awards, Ilvija and Tom Kuznecov for the beautiful pictures and medals. There was also a local burger, cotton candy and many different treats, which were taken care of by our own “Suses burger”.

Small game evenings are held every Thursday in the Nitaure cultural house, when the residents of the parish are invited to play board games. The “Big Game Night” is an event related to them and is meant to be a culmination with awards, nominations and a closing ball. “We united the participants in five different teams by drawing lots. The main goal was for people to get to know each other and get together. There were various board games: novus, checkers, “Circus”, you could play zolitis and others. Both adults and children had the opportunity to participate. In each type of game, the team was represented by one member chosen from among themselves. In the second part of the evening, there were team games, you had to blow up balloons, make and throw darts, guess words, build a “skyscraper” and other interesting attractions,” says R. Vītols.

The big game evenings should be planned longer in the future, because this time the two hours allotted turned out to be not enough to accomplish everything planned, but it was also good, admits R. Vītols. “The next event could be planned in autumn, but it is still only in the form of an idea. We would like to hold such an event twice a year.”

When asked whether any age group was particularly active, R. Vītols says that, in general, everyone was equally enthusiastic. “Because there were mixed teams, also the participants of different ages, everyone seemed to get involved with a lot of fun.” The most active in the gathering were, of course, the smallest newcomers, but they did not participate in the team games. Regarding which game received the most praise from the visitors, R. Vītols says that the biggest ovation was for the strongman game, when you had to hold two full bottles of champagne in your hands for a while, but the excitement was already everywhere.
