The mayor of the capital, Gustavo Saadi, was present at the emotional reopening of the “La Florida” self-service, a popular supermarket that suffered a terrifying fire in February 2024. This incident left its owner, Walter Montoya, and his 11 employees without work, since the premises suffered total losses of equipment and merchandise.
Through close collaboration with the municipality, the “My First Impulso” program was activated, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Health, Human Development and Social Policies. This program is designed to support local entrepreneurs, offering them technical and economic advice so they can develop their projects and reactivate their businesses.
Walter Montoya, the owner of the self-service, provided all the necessary material to reopen the premises, while the special crew of the Ministry of Human Development provided the necessary labor to carry out the remodeling works. After more than seven months of hard work, “La Florida” has finally reopened its doors, allowing its 11 employees to return to their jobs.
Leandro Quiroga Barros, director of Social Economy, expressed his satisfaction with this achievement: “It is a new goal of the ‘My First Impulso’ program in the field of social economy. In this case, it helped us provide support in the reopening of the supermarket who had suffered a fire and had lost everything.
He also highlighted the essence of the program: “The entrepreneur provides the necessary material and the municipality provides the labor. We are happy because this venture allows 11 people to recover their source of employment.”
The reopening of the “La Florida” self-service not only represents a new beginning for Walter Montoya and his employees, but also an inspiring example of how collaboration between the public sector and entrepreneurs can transform adversities into opportunities. With this new stage, it is expected that the supermarket will once again be an important pillar in the economy of the neighborhood and the city.
Accompanying the communal chief were the Secretary of Human Development, Alberto Natella; the director of Social Economy, Leandro Quiroga Barros; deputies Hernán Díaz and Cecilia Barrios, among other authorities present during the emotional event.
