The Silja Europa ferry will be refurbished and will return to the Tallinn-Helsinki route in March 2016. The high-speed ferries “Superstar” and “Star”, as well as the cruise ferry “Baltic Queen” will continue to run on this route.

As explained in the company, in July 2014, Tallink Grupp entered into an agreement with Bridgemans Services for a Silja Europa charter to Australia, where the ferry was used as the headquarters ferry from August 2014. The Silja Europa charter contract expired earlier this year, and the ferry is returning from Australia and on its way to Tallinn. The cost of the planned renewal of the ferry is not currently disclosed.

Margus Hunts, Sales and Marketing Director at Tallink Grupp, said most of the ferry facilities, including cabins, restaurants, shops and the showroom, will be renovated. Additional information and a precise timetable will be announced shortly.

The cabins will be refurbished with textiles, furniture and technical equipment, as well as most restaurants and shops.

In March, the Tallinn-Helsinki route will run twice a day on the Silja Europa route, replacing the Superstar high-speed ferry and the Baltic Queen cruise ferry, which are scheduled for maintenance in March and April.

Built in 1993 in Germany, Silja Europa is one of the world’s largest ro-ro ferries with a cabin length of 202 meters, a width of 33 meters and a capacity of more than 3,000 passengers. The ferry has six different cabin classes, five restaurants, two bars and nightclubs, a beauty salon, a sauna and four shops. The ferry has the highest ice class “1A Super” and its maximum speed is 21.5 knots. The ferry car deck can accommodate 932 line meters with vehicles and cargo.

The Estonian shipping company Tallink reported an unaudited net profit of EUR 27.3 million in 2014, which is 37.1% less than in 2013, the company said in a statement to the Tallinn Stock Exchange. The number of passengers carried by Tallink and the company’s structural unit decreased by 2.6% last year – to 8.9 million. The company’s unaudited consolidated turnover last year was 921.5 million euros, which is 2.2% less than a year ago.
