The remarkable work ethic of Jannik Sinner tennis

The surprising first round defeat at the ATP 500 tournament in the Queens’Club gnawed at Jannik Sinner. The Sextner does not throw the gun in the grain, on the contrary: He works harder than ever before.

If you lead 4: 0 and 40-15 on your own serve in the first set and still do not win the section, this annoys every tennis player immensely. So did Jannik Sinner, who also served for the set against Jack Draper in the second round. But the Brit came back – and turned the sections in his favor. The youngster’s service was decisive for this. “Today I didn’t serve well – as I have for some time,” said Sinner after the match.

It is well known that the way to the top of tennis is rocky and certainly not in one line. Sinner knows this best and therefore emphasizes like a prayer wheel that constant work is the only solution. This is not an empty phrase, but the reality. The South Tyrolean proved that on Tuesday. After his victory in doubles with Feliciano Lopez, Sinner didn’t pack his bag and left the field, but worked on the serve under the strict eyes of his mentor Riccardo Piatti.

New beginning

Noticeable here: A new serve movement that you don’t know from Sinner. The 19-year-old usually does his service from the pin point booth. This means that he pulls his right leg towards him and then jumping off and hitting the ball. This method is used by Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev, among others. On Tuesday, however, a video showed how Sinner performed the serve from a platform stand. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas are known for the movement in which the feet do not move.

It is uncertain whether Sinner will actually modify his serve movement so shortly before Wimbledon. The fact that he stands up a few minutes after a won match and continues to work on himself is a sign of his work ethic, which has brought him to where he is now.
