“Agence France Presse” indicated that “a worker of the humanitarian organization “Medici Sans Frontières” was released after being kidnapped on December 19 in Mali by jihadists, according to reports from the police and organizations, explaining that “armed men kidnapped the worker, who possesses a nationality.” Burkina Faso is located in the northeastern city of Gao, the largest city in the region.
He explained that “Mali, one of the poorest countries in the world, has witnessed a jihadist rebellion for almost a decade, which has expanded to include neighboring Niger and Burkina Faso. Thousands of civilians and security personnel in the three African countries of the Sahel have been killed as a result of the conflict and more than two million people have been displaced from their homes”. He underlined that “the reasons for the kidnappings in Mali are sometimes motivated by ideology, but often the kidnapped are released after paying a ransom”.
