OBERHOF. A storm warning was issued.
But today’s relays in the Biathlon World Cup are running as planned, after all.
The announces IBU this morning.
A severe storm has swept over the WC village of Oberhof and a storm warning was issued for the weekend. The organizer and local authorities have had a crisis meeting in the morning to discuss whether today’s relays can be run. And now a decision has been made.
The relays run as planned.
A final jury meeting is to be held at 10.45, but right now everything points to the relays being lost.
The men’s relay starts at 11.45 a.m., the women’s relay at 3 p.m.

It’s foggy, rainy and windy here in Oberhof right now, but the winds don’t seem to be as strong as first feared.
Sweden’s head coach Johannes Lukas said this late yesterday:
– We expect a lot of wind, but we prepare for it to be a competition and have the same routines as usual. Everyone is hooked and really wants to drive. The relays are very important to us and something we have worked hard for all year. We aim for that, then we’ll take everything else tomorrow.
Eastern time was relevant
If today’s relays are carried out as planned, only Sunday’s mass starts remain before the WC is over. Should they, as expected, be cancelled, they will be moved to the World Cup in Östersund in mid-March and receive WC status there.
IBU chairman Olle Dahlin confirmed this to Radiosporten yesterday.
