In March, the residents’ council should decide on a loan for the Neumarktplatz – nothing will come of it yet
More than half a year after the presentation of variants, it is still unclear how the expansion of the Neumarktplatz will continue. Brugg’s town clerk says why the agenda item has been delayed.
At the “Results Conference” last August in Salzhaus Brugg, variants for the long-awaited renewal of Neumarktplatz were presented. At the end of the evening, it seemed clear to the participants what the next steps were.
The variant decision should be made in September/October – with the involvement of the interface projects. The preliminary project should be completed in November, said Stefan Hein, head of the city’s planning and construction department.
If the residents’ council approves the corresponding loan in March 2023 and if the project also passes the referendum the following year, construction work could begin between the beginning and middle of 2025. About 12 to 18 months later, the Neumarkplatz would show itself with its new face, was the intention at the time.
Static and traffic issues clarified in depth
But the project planning loan for the Neumarktplatz renewal is not on the agenda for the March 24 meeting of the residents’ council. City clerk Matthias Guggisberg responded to the corresponding query: “After the participation and the ‘results conference’, various in-depth clarifications on the technical implementation had to be carried out.” As a result, the completion of the preliminary project was “slightly” delayed.
In other words: since the results conference, the Brugg city council has not made any further decisions on Neumarktplatz. According to Guggisberg, clarifications were carried out in particular in the areas of statics and traffic.
As is well known, the owners would like to create a pavilion in front of Neumarkt 3 for the gastro business, which was first called “Kebap Werk” and was recently renamed “Olive Garden”. But the city of Brugg rejected this construction project more than a year ago.
This procedure is still pending, but not the reason for the delay in renovating the square between Neumarkt and Lindenplatz, emphasizes the town clerk.
The template is currently being developed
The template for the residents’ council to apply for the corresponding project loan is currently being prepared. According to Matthias Guggisberg, it has not yet been approved by Brugg City Council. It is currently planned to deal with the business at the residents’ council meeting on Friday, June 23rd.
By then it should be clear whether the existing well will really disappear, drinking water dispensers are planned and what the new floor should look like without tripping hazards and the waste regime.
