The regions rebel and cry out not to become an industrial desert | Radio Ferrol

Massive support for the general strike day in Ferrolterra, Eume and Ortegal, which took place without incident, with some barricades in the A Gándara industrial estate and informational pickets in the commercial areas of Alcampo and Odeón, also in Río do Pozo. The follow-up of the strike is majority, massive in the naval, industry, logistics warehouses and in the port. Transportation only works with minimal services and school transportation has accumulated many delays, in many cases it has not been carried out.

A day of strike that seeks to strike a blow at the table to draw the attention of the Xunta de Galicia and the central government so that they get to work to save these regions. The key points: workload for the naval, a fair ecological transition, without loss of jobs, renewable energy projects and investments in projects and infrastructures. The reasons are already innumerable

The unions highly value the follow-up of the strike, of course the demonstration, which has been massive. Santiago Díaz, CCOO regional manager, has shown his satisfaction because the strike is being seconded by most of the companies and the demonstration has been one of the most important in recent times in Ferrol.

Manel Grandal, regional manager of the CIG, has also highlighted the resounding success of the strike in night and morning shifts, and has even added in always difficult areas such as industrial estates. He has also stressed the great response of citizens to the call for a demonstration in which a future has been claimed for this area.

Along the same lines, the UGT regional official, Toni Díaz, has expressed himself, who has valued the majority support for the demonstration and the good participation in the strike with a large majority of the closed shops and also the industry. The most conflictive point has been Alcampo, where there are always moments of tension with the pickets, but finally it has also closed its doors.

Galician representatives of the unions have also participated in the demonstration. Paulo Carril, from the CIG, has assured that this strike is the answer to a situation that seems to have no end. From UGT José Antonio Gómez has affirmed that this region is dying and the administrations must give a response to this mobilization. And Víctor Ledo, from CCOO, puts duties on the administrations as of tomorrow: workload in the naval, investment in the shipyards and signing the just transition agreement in As Pontes.

Support from politicians

All political parties have shown their support for the strike and have participated in the demonstration. From the PPdeG, passing through Unidas Podemos, PSdeG-PSOE and BNG. The leader of the Socialists, Gonzalo Caballero, has assured that the regions need investment, the ability to generate employment and a future. It demands a great plan from all public administrations and companies to ensure the future of the region.

For his part, the deputy in the United We Can Congress, Antón Gómez Reino, has asked for a clear commitment with Navantia, which translates into workload and modernization investments in shipyards. Regarding Endesa, he assured that the time had come to put the company in its place and to sign a just transition agreement. Caballero has been accompanied by a broad representation of the socialist mayors of the regions.

Ana Pontón, national spokesperson for the BNG, has assured that these regions have a future and strategic sectors, but has denounced that the decisions of the Xunta and the Government only lead to the emigration of the population. The mayors of Fene, Moeche and San Sadurniño have also participated in the protest.

On the part of the PP, the president of the party in Ferrol, José Rey Varela, has stated that the situation in the regions is critical and has ensured that part of the problem could be solved overnight in a Council of Ministers.
