The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) had launched a storm warning across Belgium. Several floods are to be deplored in Picardy Wallonia.

The region of Mouscron was affected Thursday evening by violent storms from France. Heavy precipitation reached the region within moments. Part of the Tournaisis region was also not spared by the vagaries of the weather

The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) has issued a storm warning across Belgium from Thursday 4 p.m. to Friday midnight. Following the heavy rains that followed, the dispatching of the Picardy Wallonia emergency services was called upon at 8:30 p.m.

“It is especially the entities of Tournai and Mouscron which have been affected. Paradoxically, some bordering areas have not had the slightest drop of water! Our teams intervened about fifty times for flooded cellars, clogged outlets, wet roads, mudslides, cutting operations of fallen trees on public roads as well as for covering roofs. To our knowledge, there were no accidents or injuries ”, we said on Friday shortly before 7:00 am at the Wapi dispatching.

In total, around thirty firefighters remained on the ground until midnight.

Under these thunderstorms, heavy precipitation is expected, which can lead to accumulations of 10 to 30 l / m2 in one hour of time. However, a few poorly mobile storm cells could lead to even more marked precipitation, mainly in the west and north of the country (amount of the order of 40 l / m2 or more).
