Power outage in Basel-Landschaft

There was a power outage on Monday evening between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Several communities in the Leimen and Birstal valleys were affected. The Radio X studio was also not on the air during this time. The reason for this was a short circuit at the headquarters of Primeo AG in Münchenstein. This led to smoke development, which was remedied within two hours.

Baschi Dürr is the new CMS director

The former FDP government councilor and head of the Justice and Security Department, Baschi Dürr, is the new director of the Christoph Merian Foundation. After the end of his term as a government councilor in 2021, he was involved in the site development of the Uptown Basel project in Arlesheim. He will replace the previous director Beat von Wartburg, who will retire.

Basel Social Prize goes to the Cura meeting center

On Thursday, the Basel Prize for Social Cohesion was awarded for the seventh time. This year’s winner is the Cura meeting centrea non-profit institution which is a contact point for chronically ill people and their circle of friends.
Cura’s offerings include resilience training, discussion groups and all types of consultation. The award includes prize money of 20,000 francs.

Basel is host for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025

On Friday, the SRG announced that the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will be held in Basel. After the Victory of musician Nemo at the last ESC Last May in Sweden it was decided that the next contest would take place in Switzerland. Basel won out over Geneva in the shortlist. The performances will take place in the St. Jakobshalle, and the St. Jakobpark will be transformed into a festival site on the day of the final. The Eurovision Song Contest will take place from May 13th to 17th.
