The regional governor of Burgas received the ambassador of Georgia – 2024-02-20 15:56:17

The Regional Governor of Burgas Plamen Yanev today received the Ambassador of Georgia H.E. Otar Berdzenishvili and his advisor Natia Vashalomidze. The two emphasized the good bilateral relations and exchanged symbolic gifts. His Excellency Berdzenishvili specified that this was his first official visit as a diplomatic representative and he was left with very good impressions of the region.

At the beginning of the meeting, Plamen Yanev presented the Burgas region and pointed out that, in addition to the great coastal opportunities, the region also offers options for the implementation of industrial projects in the non-Black Sea municipalities of the region. He pointed to Strandzha Mountain as the main center around which quality health tourism is developing because of the clean air and nature.

The topic of conversation was also the possibility of deepening bilateral relations at the regional level between the two countries. Topics of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting, such as opportunities for economic cooperation, implementation of visits by business delegations from both countries, and increasing tourism exchange both by air and by water.

Both Plamen Yanev and His Excellency Otar Berdzenishvili united around one opinion that the main problems in the tourism sector are the lack of direct flights from Georgia to Bulgaria, as well as a cruise line in the Black Sea connecting the two countries. The ambassador of Georgia suggested that Romania be included in this line to make the cruises more attractive for tourists.

They also outlined specific parameters with which the two countries can be useful to each other. Georgia can help Bulgaria with know-how in the fight against corruption, as well as for the introduction of electronic government, while Bulgaria can be useful in preparing for Georgia’s membership in the European Union, as well as with its rich experience in implementing broad-spectrum ideas on beach tourism and the maritime industry.

At the end of the meeting, the two expressed their willingness to work together to organize various initiatives such as lectures, exhibitions and forums, through which to deepen bilateral relations and for Georgian tourists to once again recognize Bulgaria and the Burgas region as a tourist destination.
