A day after taking office as regional governor, Prof. Maria Neikova met with the mayors of municipalities and the chairmen of the municipal councils in the Burgas region. The directors of the territorial directorates of the Ministry of the Interior, RZI and the Regional Directorate for Food Safety were also present at the meeting.
Preparation for the 2024 summer season, organization of the elections for MEPs and people’s representatives, as well as municipal problems were the main topics of the discussion.
In general, the mayors shared that their problems are mainly related to the lack of good interaction, quality inter-village infrastructure, the lack of duty teams from the water supply company and limiting water losses as a result of accidents on the water supply network.
The mayor of the Municipality of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, emphasized the priority of the southern bypass of the “Meden Rudnik” complex, solving the problem with the landslide on the alley to the Sarafovo district and settling the real estate case between the state and the municipality, which will attract a large foreign investor.
The Mayor of Aytos Municipality, Vasil Edrev, called for a permit to be found for the construction of the Aytos bypass road, which will take freight traffic out of the city, which will additionally solve the problem of traffic jams in the neighboring Rouen municipality as well. The administration of Karnobat Municipality also insists on a detour.
The Mayor of Sredets Municipality, Ivan Kichev, raised the topic of the lack of water in Strandzha, illegal logging and illegal construction by the Roma community in the municipality – problems that the municipality is making efforts to deal with, but also seeks assistance from the state territorial structures.
During last year’s floods, Tsarevo municipality suffered the most. The damage caused by the heavy rains amounts to tens of millions of BGN.
The deputy mayor of the municipality, Georgi Stoyanov, said that they are still dealing with the consequences of the flood and, above all, with the restoration of the road and bridge infrastructure swept away by the torrential rains. Dealing with illegal camping and safeguarding the landslide processes on the Central beach – Tsarevo is also on the agenda.
The Municipality of Sungurlare stated that, along with the common problems common to all municipalities, there is an urgent need for at least one or two more ambulances providing First Aid, as well as providing medical personnel. They currently have one ambulance and it is grossly inadequate for the area it covers. The regional governor recommended a good practice established in other municipalities, which take over the training of students from the respective municipality and, after their graduation, are immediately appointed to work.
The director of the ODMVR senior commissioner Emil Pavlov announced that the necessary organization has been created both for the upcoming elections for MEPs and people’s representatives, as well as for ensuring security during the summer season.
In the resort towns, there will be police officers from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as 428 officers from the interior of the country, who will assist the local officers of the ODMVR in dealing with domestic crime, minimizing abuses in the upcoming elections, ensuring road safety and ensuring on a calm summer season.
The director of the RZI reports that there is no danger of an epidemic situation in the Burgas region for any viral disease.
All those present congratulated Prof. Maria Neikova on her assumption of office, stating that, knowing her work style, they are confident in good-faith cooperation and finding a common path to solving problems.
