The Torre del Reformador was illuminated in pink to commemorate the International Day for the Fight against Breast Cancer, whose special activity carried out by the National Institute of Electrification -INDE-, had the participation of the Vice Minister of Regulation, Surveillance and Control of Health, Leslie Samayoa.
It was highlighted that this act of enlightenment occurs as a result of an issue that touches deeply, since it has affected mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and the Guatemalan population. Given this, it was highlighted that this was an important moment to raise awareness and promote more and more women access to controls, diagnoses and treatment. Likewise, it is essential to inform yourself and be committed to avoid risk factors and early detection.

On the other hand, regular mammograms, self-examination or self-recognition are essential tools in screening and early detection strategies, so all women should be encouraged to have periodic mammograms and be alert to any changes in their breasts.
Cancer in the world
Around the world, millions of people are diagnosed with this disease every year. In the case of Guatemala, it affects up to 2,000 women annually and up to 500 of them die, according to estimates by Globocan. However, despite these figures, it must be remembered that early detection and awareness are vital in the fight against breast cancer.
Patients from the Breast Cancer Unit of Roosevelt Hospital paid tribute to Vivian Peralta, for her work leading this Unit for more than 20 years, as well as being a fundamental part of encouraging each patient who has fought against this disease. In addition, candles and a minute of silence were lit for the women who made a great fight to overcome breast cancer, as well as applause of encouragement for those who continue in that process.
