Liverpool failed to win on the final Group D matchday of the Champions League. Come to FC Midtjylland headquarters, the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw.

Playing at the MCH Arena on Thursday (10/12/2020) early morning WIB, Liverpool took the lead through Mohamed Salah’s quick goal in the first minute. But finally the hosts managed to avoid defeat thanks to Alexander Scholz’s penalty in the 62nd minute.

These results do not change Liverpool’s position at the top of Group D with 13 points. Meanwhile, Midtjylland closed their progress in the Champions League with two points. Liverpool entered the last 16 accompanied by Atalanta, who won 1-0 over Ajax Amsterdam.

The course of the match

Liverpool immediately took the lead in the first minute. A bad backpass from Alexander Scholz was won by Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian striker dribbled the ball and finished with a slow shot which Jesper Hansen failed to save.

Even though he has already been eliminated, Midtjylland does not want to look ugly at home. Erik Sviatchenko tries to equalize in the 4th minute, but his header from a corner goes wide.

Midtjylland pressed again in the 13th minute. Anders Dreyer fired a long-distance shot, but it went wide again. Liverpool attacked back through Diogo Jota in the 19th minute, but his close range shot was pushed over by Hansen.

Liverpool’s threat continues. Konstantinos Tsimikas fired a shot from the penalty box in the 30th minute, but the ball also failed to penetrate the host’s goal.

Meanwhile Midtjylland is also looking for goals. Sory Kaba almost scored in the 33rd minute, but his header was blocked by Fabinho in front of the Liverpool goal. In the 44th minute, Awer Mabil’s shot was pushed over by Caoimhin Kelleher.

Liverpool also continued to try to add goals ahead of halftime. However, Jota’s kick in the 45th minute was secured by Hansen, as was Naby Keita’s shot in injury time. The 1-0 score lasted until the break.

In the second half, the hosts threatened first. Evander Ferreira almost equalized in the 49th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar. A minute later, Kaba’s shot has yet to produce a goal.

Midtjylland got a penalty in the 60th minute. A Video Assistant Referee (VAR) footage shows Dreyer being violated by Kelleher. Scholz stepped forward as executor and successfully carried out his duties. Score a 1-1 draw.

Successfully scoring goals, Midtjylland is increasingly eager to target victory. Evander almost turned things around in the 64th minute, but his shot was off the mark. Two minutes later, Kaba’s chance also had the same fate.

Scholz also had a chance in the 74th minute, but his finishing didn’t change the score either. Meanwhile, Gustav Isaksen’s shot in the 83rd minute was still able to be secured by Kelleher.

Sviatchenko had a golden opportunity to break into Liverpool’s goal, but Kelleher managed to ward off his header. Until the long whistle, the score remained 1-1.
