Liverpool will host Arsenal at Anfield in the first leg of the English League Cup semifinal, Friday (1/14/2022) early morning WIB. The Reds are chasing a win to ease their pace in the second leg to advance to the final. The second leg will be held at Arsenal’s headquarters, Emirates Stadium, on January 21.
Liverpool are determined to advance to the English League Cup final for the first time since 2016. In the 2016 edition, the Reds failed to win the English League Cup after being defeated by Manchester City with a score of 2-4 on penalties.
The Reds after that have never progressed far in the English League Cup in the last four editions. Liverpool are still fasting for titles in the English League Cup since 2012.
Liverpool Manager, Jürgen Klopp, denied the notion that Liverpool are not serious in the English League Cup. He emphasized that he always wanted to bring Liverpool to win trophies in this event.
However, Klopp’s ambition to end Liverpool’s title drought in the English League Cup will not be easy. Liverpool must first pass the obstacles of the Gunners which according to Klopp is not an easy opponent.
“Yes, we almost gave up – We definitely want to go. We always wanted (for that), there was a misunderstanding. On other occasions we qualified for the semi-finals and times. But we are here to win trophies,” Klopp was quoted as saying by the website. Liverpool official.
“It is a title and we are absolutely determined to win it. But there is a big hurdle between now and then. Arsenal are in very good shape so it won’t be easy but we will try it right.”
