With the exception of the packaging of dairy products, almost all glass, bottles, metal and plastic beverage bottles put on the market with a capacity between 0.1 and 3 liters can be returned continuously throughout the year – at the so-called RE points connected to the return network.
We expect that we will be able to handle more traffic than before after its introduction
– confirmed to our paper Judit Pahola and Géza Pahola, the two managers of Pahola&Pahola Kft., who manage two CBA-Prima stores in Lepsény and Polgárdi, but their example also illustrates the professional results that can be achieved in any area of the country.
It is very important that only PET, aluminum and glass beverage packaging can be returned for which the customer has paid the HUF 50 return fee and which has the return logo.
These bottles will only gradually appear on store shelves, because manufacturers have been given a reprieve until June 30, until then they can market packaging that cannot be returned. These old bottles cannot be returned, they must be disposed of in the selective bin.
We have already started the preparations, the return machines will be installed in our stores within a few weeks
– said Géza Pahola, one of the managers of Pahola&Pahola Kft.
We are completely positive about the changes, because regardless of this, we try to run and operate our businesses in an environmentally conscious way, we really feel the importance of this, but I think that the fact that this service is available with us will be a serious attraction for our customers as well.
he added. According to him, since this service will only be available in both settlements, it will be able to act as a serious “customer magnet”.
The old tradition of exchanging and recycling glass has, unfortunately, dropped to a minimum level in recent decades. The new domestic legislation tries to counterbalance this.
In the new system, which will start gradually next year, customers will get back the HUF fifty redemption fee paid at the time of purchase for each returned beverage packaging, which can be a stronger incentive for them than environmental protection considerations.
All distributors must prepare for the appearance of products with a redemption fee, as it is expected that the old bottles without the redemption logo will be on the shelves for an even longer period of time during the transition period, and then the bottles with the new packaging and logo will gradually appear, for which the 50 HUF redemption fee.
Manufacturers will have the opportunity to prepare until June 30, until then the returnable beverage packaging will only be gradually placed on the shelves, i.e. non-returnable packaging may also be sold until June 30, 2024.
Thus, at first only fewer, but later gradually more and more returnable beverage bottles and cans will be in the shops.
It is important that only the new bottles marked with a redemption fee can be redeemed, there will be no redemption fee for packaging without a label or barcode, which is why it is not worth collecting the various bottles and packaging in advance.
By the way, food stores with a sales area of more than four hundred square meters must participate in the future redemption by installing a redemption machine.
In the case of stores smaller than this, it is a matter of personal decision and business consideration whether they want to become a redemption point voluntarily, even as a manual redemption point.
This can be a very rewarding step for many, and MOHU, which manages the system, is counting on your application, which you can do by registering on the online administration interface, the Partner Portal.
If we manage to get the population used to a more environmentally conscious way of thinking, then this will be a very good thing
– the company managers told our newspaper, who also confirmed that everything went smoothly in the preparation:
Any question we had was answered very quickly by the MOHU, but the Hungarian National Trade Association and CBA-Prima also helped a lot.
they declared.
One of the defining results of research examining the experiences of mandatory redemption systems so far was that
customers usually always return the beverage packaging at the same place, they are attached and loyal to the place of purchase and redemption.
However, an important prerequisite for this is that the redemption process should be simple, smooth and convenient for them.
It is therefore worthwhile for small shop owners to join the system, that is, to become a return point, REpoint, for several reasons.
If the already used bottles are exchanged with them, then the voucher received for them will also be purchased from them, so their turnover will be higher.
Just like the entrepreneurs working in almost every part of the country, the Pahola brothers count on the same.
We expect an increase in traffic, which is why we have positioned the vending machines so that they are near the entrance to the stores. At the same time, we are also preparing our colleagues for the introduction of the new system, because especially at the beginning, customers will have to be continuously informed about the process and method of redemption
company managers told our paper.
