The Volkstheater in the districts brings the OMV cause to the stage together with the “Dossier” research platform.
It can only be assumed, but if OMV lawyers were watching last Friday, they probably didn’t like the idea. “They were left alone for years,” it says at one point. With this judgment they would have remained in the minority at the end of the play, one must say: suspiciously conspicuous; the rest of the audience at the Brigittenau adult education center got up from their red velvet seats and applauded for minutes.
The investigative magazine “Dossier” and the Volkstheater were able to prove at the premiere of “Die Redaktion” that journalism and theater go well together – and that Austrian politics and business continue to deliver a more exciting thriller than fantasy and fiction could ever do become.
Director Calle Fuhr has managed to transfer years of research into the machinations of the OMV boardroom to the stage in a clear and nerve-wracking manner. The four-person ensemble, consisting of Gerti Drassl, Murali Perumal, Christoph Schüchner and Magdalena Simmel, takes you on an intense hunt for the truth full of intimidation lawsuits, corruption and a whole lot of job haggling. For this they need four chapters, three large screens and two hours of time. The focus is not only on the question of how Austria’s journalism can continue, but also how we deal with our future.
By the way, OMV is far from being told. Finally, on the day of the premiere, Ashwien Sankholkar publishes the “Dossier” story “A Mole Hunt in the Oil Company.” A new chapter. You can experience it live until June 6th.
