Rockstar’s beloved cowboy series, Red Dead Redemption, has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide, Take-Two Interactive reports in its Q2 23 earnings report.

The Red Dead Redemption series is Rockstar’s second most popular video game franchise, with over 70 million units sold across two games and two console generations. The latest data from publisher Take-Two Interactive confirms that Red Dead sales are split between 24 million for Red Dead Redemption and 46 million for Red Dead Redemption 2.

From June 30 to September 30, 2022, the franchise managed to sell 2 million copies and surprisingly, the numbers show that both Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One managed to sell 1. each, one million copies. This is pretty amazing considering the age of the original game – RDR1 was released in 2010, over 12 years ago.

Despite the increase in game sales, the Red Dead franchise is currently on the back burner with Rockstar Games primarily focusing on Grand Theft Auto 6.

Red Dead Online, the free online multiplayer component of the game, is still active, but Rockstar hasn’t released significant content for this mode in a long time.

Previously, there were rumors of a possible Red Dead Redemption remaster for next-gen systems, however, these projects have reportedly been cancelled.

There were also rumors of a possible re-release of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but they never materialised… which usually happens with Rockstar rumors.
