A great controversy generated the election of Rafael Esquivel, who campaigned from the Ciudad del Este Regional Penitentiary, where he was admitted in September 2022 for a case of intentional homicide and others.
He was charged with child sexual abuse, attempted murder, serious injury, serious coercion, hostage-taking, aggravated robbery, production of common risks, threat of punishable acts and criminal association.
Likewise, the man was accused of sexually abusing a minor, apparently in complicity with the victim’s mother. This situation led to the pronouncement of several organizations in defense of children, who ask that the senator-elect not be sworn in in the Upper House.
The last accusation presented by the prosecutor Vivian Coronel refers to the rape of a 12-year-old girl, who is currently 15 years old, whose mother had sold her to the politician. The victim testified in the Gesell chamber as a judicial advance of the evidence and led to the accusation of her mother for pimping, with an indictment date of July 31.
