Let’s find out now!

In almost every old fairy tale or legend, among the characters you can find a sorceress, good or harmful. Whether there were witches in reality is a moot point, but at one time many women were accused of witchcraft. Some of them were executed, some were expelled from the settlements. Not so long ago in the state of Connecticut, USA, the General Assembly recognized a miscarriage of justice made some three hundred and seventy years ago. According to a public organization that includes historians and heirs of the accused “witches”, state senators adopted a resolution acknowledging that the inhabitants of colonial Connecticut were condemned unfairly. The General Assembly declared that the descendants of the accused should not feel ashamed of their ancestors. A decree was issued listing the names of all those wrongfully accused, including Elsie Young, a 32-year-old girl who was hanged in 1647 on charges of witchcraft. She was the first “witch” executed in the American colonies. True, among the senators of the state of Connecticut there was one who spoke out against the resolution – in his opinion, it is naive to try to understand the events that took place several hundred years ago.
