Antananarivo – The recognition by the United States of America of the entire sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its Sahara aroused reactions from Malagasy researchers and analysts who saw it as a decisive historic turning point in the treatment of the regional dispute maintained around this question.
This is a decision all the more important as it emanates from a great power with a seat on the UN Security Council and a country very influential on the international political scene, have declared these personalities in interviews with MAP.
For Ravaka Andrianaivotseheni, Doctor of Law, Professor at the University of Antananarivo, this recognition is the culmination of long-term diplomatic actions deployed by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and comes as an extension of the support of the United States of America for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative which they qualified as a realistic, serious and credible solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara.
“There is no shadow of a doubt that the Sahara is Moroccan and this recognition by the United States has just come to consolidate Morocco in its rights”, she affirms.
Mrs. Ravaka also underlines that the decision of the USA to open soon an American Consulate in the city of Dakhla, in the Moroccan Sahara, with an economic vocation, is a logical continuation of this American recognition and of the process of negotiations piloted by the UNO. .
The researcher believes, in this regard, that this decision is likely to promote economic and social development not only in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, but also throughout the Maghreb region.
Same story for Armand R. Panja Ramanoelina, Professor, Former rector of the University of Antananarivo, who considers that the recognition by the United States of the full sovereignty of the Kingdom over the entire territory of the Sahara is a consecration serious and assiduous work by Morocco through its commendable initiative for the autonomy of the southern provinces.
This legal decision, which is in accordance with the institutional arrangements specific to the American Government, takes effect immediately and revolves around four main axes namely, the recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the entire Sahara region, support to the Moroccan autonomy initiative, the opening of an American Consulate General in Dakhla and the promotion of investments in the Moroccan Sahara region, observes the Malagasy analyst.
Regarding the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom and Israel, he maintained that “this decision is part of the millennial history of peaceful coexistence between Moroccans of Jewish faith and their compatriots of Muslim faith”.
For Dieu Donné Omar Manalahy, Regional Director of Fisheries and Fisheries in Madagascar, the American decision to recognize the Moroccan character of the Sahara and to open a Consulate General in the city of Dakhla will undoubtedly accelerate the settlement of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. .
These new salutary developments will certainly encourage other influential countries to follow in the footsteps of the United States to consolidate the Kingdom in its rights, he said, recalling that many brotherly and friendly countries have already opened Consulates in the United States. southern provinces of the Kingdom as a frank support for the Moroccan character of the Sahara.
These Malagasy researchers were keen to stress, in this regard, that this reestablishment of diplomatic relations was in no way to the detriment of Morocco’s defense of the just Palestinian cause, as HM Le. King Mohammed VI during his telephone interview with US President Donald Trump. On the contrary, argue these analysts, this decision will encourage Morocco to take advantage of its diplomatic niches with the State of Israel to advance a settlement of the Palestinian question on the basis of a two-state solution with Al Quds-East. as capital.
They consider, consequently, that these new developments in the question of the Moroccan Sahara must encourage Algeria, which supports the “polisario”, to review its positions and its strategy and to adhere to this saving dynamic triggered by the proposal. Moroccan autonomy in the Sahara, as the only framework for reaching a peaceful solution to this regional dispute.
This recognition comes on top of the significant efforts made by the United States in their capacity as pen-bearer of all Security Council resolutions on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara to reach a final political solution to this regional dispute, they note. again.
