/ world today news/ About 20,000 migrants have passed through the reception center for refugees near Sofia Busmantsi, a BGNES reporter reported, referring to employees from the Migration Directorate of Rumiana Bachvarova’s Interior Ministry.
The situation in the centers of the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is more than extraordinary. With a capacity of 940 migrants, they currently hold 1,631 persons or 174% occupancy. At their own expense, 395 foreign citizens were taken to foreign addresses last week.
“The badges that are given to each new arrival have already reached the figure of 20,000… The home is overflowing in the literal sense of the word,” says the official. Currently, over 600 people are accommodated there. From its opening until today, there have never been so many accommodated foreigners residing illegally in Bulgaria.
At the same time, there is a shortage of personnel – both police, medical and service personnel. In the last month, there have been cases where nearly 100 migrants arrived in one night. “Well, how will a doctor examine them, prescribe them treatment… or how will a policeman or the duty officer organize their accommodation and all the necessary checks,” the source also told BGNES.
The majority are from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. From time to time whole Syrian families come, but most of them do not stay long.
Among those who arrived, there are also young people “who are definitely in good physical health and it is obvious that they have been active – developed muscles, a sharp look and a special way of moving”, the source from the Ministry of Internal Affairs also says.
Busmantsi is located near Sofia and is run as a Special Home for temporary accommodation of foreigners under the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the law, only foreigners who have illegally resided in Bulgaria and who have been issued a deportation order or an expulsion order are accommodated there.
BGNES reminds that according to the weekly statistical report of the Ministry of the Interior, with which BGNES has, as of September 9, 13,005 migrants have entered the territory of Bulgaria since the beginning of 2016. Only for the period 02-08 September, 664 new migrants entered our country. 36 foreign citizens have been deported from the country in the last week.
At the same time, it became clear that Bulgaria can accept exactly 779 more migrants, for whom accommodation will be found in the centers of the State Agency for Refugees. At the moment, the capacity of the refugee centers is 85% full. This means that by September 20 at the latest, the authorities in our country must look for options for the construction of tent camps or the opening of temporary or new migrant centers.
