PONTEDERA. Second day of protest. Second day of opening despite the prohibition contained in the decree of the presidency of the council of ministers (Dpcm). Another blitz by the police. Another fine. But GimFive does not close. And the members train peacefully. Today, Saturday 16 January, the gym on the border between Pontedera and Fornacette, on the Tosco Romagnola, has once again opened its doors to fitness lovers. From 8 to 20, as written on the sign posted at the bottom of the stairs leading to the room where weights and machinery are placed. The Bologna brand, which has 12 gyms in Italy, three of which in Tuscany, continues the battle against the government’s anti-Covid measures. “We don’t hurt anyone. We just work, what the state has prevented us from doing for months. Who trains – explains Paolo Dierna, personal trainer and collaborator of GimFive of Pontedera – respects the anti-contagion rules, first of all the safety distance from other people ».
Pontedera, the gymnasium of the revolt (fined for the second day in a row): the owner speaks
—Gyms should be closed. At least until March 5th. As the national rules for the fight against coronavirus say. But GimFive on Friday January 15 said “enough”. And he turned the lights back on in the large glass room that houses treadmills and other exercise equipment. A gesture that attracted the attention of the police station, municipal police and carabinieri. And that triggered the first sanction: 400 euros and five days of closure, pending the decision of the Prefect.
The day after usual script. GimFive “raised the shutter” at 8 o’clock. And he worked until 20. In the morning the police came back and proceeded with the fine number two.
At the time of the visit of the carabinieri, police and municipal police there were several members inside the gym. «They cannot be sanctioned – says Dierna – because this is not a public place, but private and accessible only by those who are registered with us. We will take any action against us, convinced of our reasons and determined to move forward. Working is not a crime. We are not criminals ».
GimFive will be closed on Sunday 17th January. But only because the company’s calendar provides for it. No step back. The staff of the center is ready to leave tomorrow when, in all likelihood, agents and soldiers will make their appearance again. «We employ ninety people – he says Federico Milieni, head of the company’s marketing division – and we don’t want to leave them at home anymore. We respect the work of the police, but we have no intention of giving up. We must work. At any cost”. –
