The reasons why Myriam Hernández no longer loves “The man I love”

When, in 1988, Myriam Hernández released the single “El hombre que yo amo” he scored, probably, the greatest success of his career. Thanks to her, she obtained her first number 1 in the Hot Latin of Billboard magazine and was at the top of the lists of the most listened songs in 20 countries, positioning her as one of the Latin artists that sold the most albums that year.

Unforgettable is also the promotional clip recorded in the today virtually disappeared Concón dunes, where the singer appears in a white dress amid the yellow sands. And although “It smells like danger”, “The force of love” or “It left me” were other singles that were widely distributed, none reached the impact of the ballad written by Gogo Muñoz.

But Myriam Hernández now denies her. Although she confessed that she remembers it with affection, because it meant the takeoff of her career, she says that she does not like the lyrics. “It was the theme that allowed me to open the doors of the world, but today I feel that it is a song that is too dedicated, like an ode to man,” he commented to Nicolás Copano, who had her as a guest on his program, “CHV en casa” .

Then she explained why she does not feel identified with the verses of the song. “It’s like an ode of submissive … I don’t like it because I’m not like that, and there is a phrase for example that says: ‘It always flies away, but it returns to the nest’, and I changed that phrase a few years ago because I didn’t like it”, said.

He pointed out that he did not want to deliver a submissive image to the public. “There are many women who probably go to my concerts and are probably experiencing psychological violence, mistreatment, and I thought that I could not be singing that,” the interpreter concluded.
