No child will be registered on the birth registers at Saint-Junien hospital this week.
In a press release sent Tuesday evening, the Saint-Juniaud hospital center announced that “an unforeseen absence in the maternity department of CH Roland-Mazoin and the unsuccessful nature of the searches to find a replacement oblige us to suspend, after consultation with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Nouvelle-Aquitaine, carrying out deliveries, emergency consultations and abortions, until Monday, November 15, 8:30 am ”.
A single patient transferred to the CHU
A suspension of activity due to the sick leave of the only gynecologist-obstetrician on duty this week in the maternity ward. “It’s an exceptional and temporary situation,” says Stéphane Scalabrino, deputy director of the Saint-Junien hospital.
Indeed, this is the first time that the service has to suspend activity for a week. But the Saint-Junien hospital center, shared with the Limoges University Hospital, has been prepared for any eventuality and the management specifies that “a device aimed at guaranteeing the safety of all patients followed in Saint-Junien has been put in place with the support of the Limoges University Hospital where the patients were informed of this interruption and redirected to the Limoges gynecology-obstetrics department ”.
A patient, present at the beginning of the week in the maternity hospital, had been transported during the day to the CHU of Limoges “in complete safety” according to the management.
Some consultations always guaranteed
Abortions will be provided by the abortion center of the Mother and Child Hospital at the Limoges University Hospital. The Saint-Junien hospital also refers patients to the SAMU and 15 in case of urgent need for a medical opinion.
Via its press release, the management finally specifies that “the maternity hospital of Saint-Junien maintains its activity of scheduled obstetric consultations, provided by the midwives of the service, as well as emergency contraception consultations”.
The recruitment of an additional certified doctor
While the lack of personnel has often been pointed out by the unions, Stéphane Scalabrino specifies that “a recruitment has been recorded and that a gynecologist-obstetrician will arrive in Saint-Junien at the end of November at 80%, in addition to the doctor usually present ”.
A medical reinforcement for a maternity unit which has “a primordial place” on the territory, between Limoges and Angoulême.
Contacted this Wednesday, the CGT union of the Saint-Juniaud hospital would like to remind him that “all activity will resume on Monday, November 15 and that the arrival of an additional doctor at the end of the month should be much more comfortable for the patient. service ”.
Out of breath, the staff of the Saint-Junien hospital point the finger at the flaws of the establishment in letters
