The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix uses the same TNGA:GA-C platform used in the Toyota Voxy. The new Kijang Innova Zenix platform uses a monocoque frame design combined with a front-wheel drive system, also known as Front Wheel Drive (FWD).
The use of a monocoque chassis and front-wheel drive has changed the tradition of the Toyota Kijang, which until now has always used a chassis model with ladder frame and rear-wheel drive (RWD).
According to PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) director of corporate affairs, Bob Azam, the modifications to the chassis and transmission of the Kijang Innova Zenix are closely related to (exhaust) emissions. With this new chassis platform and drive system, Innova Zenix is more environmentally friendly with lower emissions.
“Because in the future the trend will be emissions. Well, Innova is not only in Indonesia, but (exported) also in other countries, such as Dubai, in the cities of the Middle East where they have tried to reduce emissions. If we don’t make a revolution, we can’t export,” Bob said in Jakarta (11/21).
PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) vice president Henry Tanoto said the Kijang Innova Zenix is more fuel efficient and has lower emissions than the older Kijang.
“This new model has a better performance increase, averaging 25 percent and more economical fuel economy, averaging over 50 percent, over the current generation,” said Henry.
Henry also says the Innova Zenix EV Hybrid has lower emissions, with tailpipe emissions reduced by up to 50%. “It is hoped that the presence of this model will not only be an environmentally friendly mobility solution but also meet the needs of the Indonesian people,” Henry said.
Meanwhile, PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) marketing director Anton Jimmi Suwandy admits he’s not worried about customers running away with the new chassis and drive platforms offered at the Kijang Innova Zenix.
“Because the trend is in that direction. Emissions have to be better, acceleration has to be better, fuel economy has to be more efficient. That’s the direction. So the most appropriate combination for this car at the moment is this drive.” (front) which is the most appropriate,” Anthony said.
