RIYADH – The concept of polygamy is not foreign to Muslims. Prophet Muhammad SAW is also known to have more than one wife.

In Islam itself, having more than 4 wives is not something that is allowed. A person can only have many wives if he has agreed to his ability to be fair.

As a country that upholds Islamic law, Saudi Arabia also does not view its citizens as polygamous. One of them is the King of Saudi Arabia himself.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has 30 wives and 35 children.

Although it sounds strange and certainly violates Islamic law which limits the number of wives to only 4 people. But apparently, the king also understood the rules and did not marry his wives at the same time.

The reason for doing polygamy is for the common good. Through his marriage, the king built political cooperation because the women he married were mostly women from prominent tribes and families.
