Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang extended his contract at Arsenal despite Barcelona’s approach. Mikel Arteta believes Aubameyang believes in the Arsenal project.
Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal has been the subject of speculation for months as his old contract expires in the summer of 2021. The Gabon international striker has not signed a contract renewal until the 2019/2020 season is over.
In the middle of the question mark about his future, Aubameyang was associated with Barcelona. Blaugrana is said to have made a bid for the 31-year-old.
In the end, Aubameyang remained on Arsenal. He ended all speculation about his future by signing a new contract until 2023.
Arteta said Aubameyang remained because he believed in the Arsenal squad. The Gunners managed to convince Aubameyang to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
“I think the big reason why Auba remains is because we have an extraordinary team,” Arteta said as quoted Sky Sports.
“We have great people working here and he feels the love from the fans.”
“I did my job, explained to him what we were trying to do, explained how important he is, what we are building. That’s all. The club has to get credit for that and everyone who works together to keep him.”
Barcelona are not the only club that has been linked with Aubameyang. Inter Milan has also been linked with the former Borussia Dortmund player.
“Our clubs are as big as those names. The most important thing is the football club. What do we want to be like and what we can achieve in the future,” said Arteta when asked about Barcelona and Inter’s interest in Aubameyang.
“We have to make sure that our players believe in our project,” he said.
So an important pillar in Arsenal’s attack, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring in London Cannon’s 3-0 win over Fulham last week. Arsenal certainly hope that goals will be born again from Aubameyang when they host West Ham United on Sunday (9/20/2020) early morning WIB.
