Despite the increasing number of conflicts in the world, it is important to remember that the war waged by Russia in Ukraine is real, brutal and has been going on for the 602nd day in a row, emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš (JV), who met with Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia Anatoly Kucevol today.
It has already been reported that during the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador discussed current events in the Middle East region, the impact of the armed conflict between Israel and the terrorist organization “Hamas” on the security situation in the region and its possible consequences in Ukraine, the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Ukraine’s resilience against the aggressor.
The officials exchanged views on the European Union’s (EU) support for Ukraine, including the country’s further integration into the EU, as well as Latvia’s practical involvement in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Kariņš once again assured the ambassador of Latvia’s firm support for Ukraine.
“It is important that we in Europe continue to provide Ukraine with all the necessary support. In the conversation with the ambassador, I confirmed Latvia’s firm support for Ukraine and that we will continue to provide all the necessary aid so that Ukraine can win the war,” Kariņš emphasized after the meeting.
It was emphasized in the conversation that Latvia is determined to continue implementing reconstruction projects in the Chernihiv region, as well as to transfer good practice in the implementation of reforms by participating in development cooperation projects in Ukraine. Also, Latvia will continue to cooperate closely with Ukraine and will support its reforms for European integration.
The officials discussed the capacity of the Baltic Corridor and Latvian infrastructure, providing an alternative route for the export and transit of Ukrainian grain. Taking into account the availability of Ukrainian grain and agricultural products, which is vital for global food security, Latvia supports efforts to promote the export of Ukrainian grain and agricultural products to global markets.
Looking at Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civil and critical infrastructure, the minister emphasized the unwavering solidarity of the Latvian government and society with Ukraine, continuing to provide humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people, including providing the supply of generators to help the people of Ukraine overcome another winter in war conditions.
