Disney is not throwing in the towel with the live-action versions of its legendary animated films. After The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella o maleficent, Hercules will be the next to be adapted as live action and has already signed the one who would be its director.

As reported VarietyGuy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch, pigs and diamonds) will be the director from the remake of Hercules with Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as the one chosen to write the first draft of the film. The directors of Avengers: Infinity WarJoe Russo and Anthony Russo, will be the executive producers of it.

This wouldn’t be Ritchie’s first time directing a live-action Disney movie, as he directed in 2019. the new version of Aladdin with Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott as protagonists.

The original movie of Hercules premiered in 1997 and It had a budget of 85 million dollars, subsequently collecting more than 200 million worldwide at the box office. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the story was a reinvention of Roman mythology with musical touches and where Hades kidnapped the demigod son of Zeus so that he could live with mortals.

The reason behind the lesbian kiss in ‘Lightyear’: “We wanted an inclusive film and not tell a love story”

In the original story, he was the son of Zeus and Alcmena, a mortal queen, and not Hera, the goddess and wife of Zeus, as the children’s animated film tells. Little else is known about the plot and the cast of the new version of Hercules, but we hope that the actors of this ambitious project will be announced soon.

While we wait for more details, remember that Disney just released in theaters Lightyear, the animated film that tells the origins of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy.
