The Rats Take Over Le Havre: Residents Call for Urgent Eradication

The reports have been increasing for several months. The rats have taken over several districts of the agglomeration of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime). In Harfleur, for example, the residents of several buildings, annoyed, call on their landlord to eradicate the problem.

Rats frolicking on the lawns, not caring for a single second about the humans around. This kind of video, a local resident collects it. “It was everywhere! It was going up, it was playing on the trash cans… it’s awful”.

Since May, rodents have multiplied in the vegetation of certain buildings. The inhabitants made several reports to their social landlord Alcéane.

“They know it well since they have set up small traps, but it’s not enough. It’s recurrent, and it’s all the time!”, Protested a resident of the building.

Rats, it doesn’t stop like that… The law, for example, prohibits individuals from putting poison themselves. From the month of June, the agents of Alcéane therefore placed traps.

“We position boxes that correspond perfectly to what the legislation authorizes us to do, but these boxes are not supposed to capture rats. When a rat has consumed a certain percentage of poison, it will die six to eight days later. “, explains Ludovic Quenehen, pest control specialist at Alcéane.

Several methods are used by Alcéane to control the rodent population. But the proliferation continues. The garbage collectors’ strike last spring accentuated the phenomenon.

“We end up with invasions in areas like Aplemont, Mare Rouge, and on places under construction. Whether on public roads or on buildings, you should know that it disturbs the populations of rats, combined with precipitation, rats come up from the networks to settle on the surface”, Nancy Josephau, director of resident services at Alcéane.

As a last resort, the lessor will consider cutting the hedges of the residence. Hoping that this time, the rats leave the ship.
