Near the Citadel of Târgu Mureș there is a garden with medicinal and aromatic plants, including the holy herb, the plant mentioned in the Bible. This plant is very rare in Romania. Rozalia Jani is the retired horticultural engineer who makes sure that the plants in this garden don’t lack anything.
“We have Echinacea, we have what is known, Lemon, in one corner we have Mint, Lavender”, declared Rozalia Jani.

Echinacea, Lemon, Mint and Lavender are just some of the plants grown and cared for by Rozalia Jani in the Cetății in Târgu Mures. The horticultural engineer tried to teach everyone who comes to visit the place about the rare plants and their benefits to the body.
The holy herb from the Bible, cultivated in Mureș
Rozalia Jani explained that the holy grass is a blue plant that even appears in the Bible. This plant was used as a disinfectant in the Middle Ages when there were a lot of infectious diseases, such as the plague.
“The hyssop is a rare, lesser-known plant, it has a special flower color, blue color. It is a plant that appears in the descriptions of the Bible. It was used as a disinfectant. For example, in the Middle Ages when there were different diseases, like the plague, and those who were in charge of burying the corpses cleaned and disinfected themselves”, explained Rozalia Jani.

The horticultural engineer also added that every plant in the city has a utility. Another plant found here is Santolina, also known as the wood of the Mother of God. In addition, the garden is open to visitors throughout the year.
