According to Zheleznyak, in his speech, Zelensky noted the role of Maliuk in countering aggression, the return and liberation of Ukrainian heroes.
Background:
- Zelensky appointed Vasily Malyuk to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine on February 28, 2022 – his birthday. Before that, Malyuk managed to work for 2 weeks as the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Monastyrsky.
- On July 17, 2022, Zelensky removed the then Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova and removed the former head of the SBU, Ivan Bakanov, from his post.
- The UP noted that after the “elimination” of Bakanov, his duties will probably be performed by his first deputy Vasily Malyuk, who was previously recorded at the scandalous birthday celebration of the deputy head of the President’s Office, Oleg Tatarov.
- Sources of the UP called Maliuk a close person to Tatarov and the head of the OPU Andrei Yermak.
- On July 18, 2022, Malyuk became acting head of the SBU.
