The youth organization “The Raccoons” invites high school students and students to participate in a programming marathon or hackathon to learn more about technological innovations, creatively implement ideas and develop digital, especially programming, skills.
A hackathon, or programming marathon, is an event where both beginners and experienced enthusiasts are invited to divide into teams, find a solution to a challenge prepared by cooperation partners and create its prototype within 48 hours.
The Raccoons team invites everyone to participate in the hackathon, regardless of the level of knowledge, encouraging them to learn programming and ideation practically. The work at the hackathon is not limited to programming and digital technologies – participants are encouraged to realize what is needed to realize their idea and develop it in the future. In order to better understand the interaction between idea, design, technical solution and business development, schoolchildren and students from different fields of study are invited to participate in the hackathon.
The fourth hackathon organized by the youth community “The Raccoons” will take place this year from October 20 to 22 at the Nature House of the University of Latvia in Riga. To support young people, “The Raccoons” have attracted mentors, industry professionals who will provide support in developing the team’s ideas and creating a prototype. Before the hackathon, workshops will be held, where in an informal atmosphere anyone will have the opportunity to try, for example, the development of a website and learn how to use Git, skills that will be useful in the hackathon. The most attractive and top rated ideas submitted by the jury will compete for valuable cash and digital product prizes.
The relaxed atmosphere of the event encourages those who do not have an understanding of programming and related industries to find a way to take the first steps in this direction and check if it is an area with which they want to associate their further studies, career or hobbies. On the other hand, for those who have already found their vocation in technology, this is an opportunity to find like-minded people and, with the help of mentors, challenge their abilities in the realization of an idea that appeals to them.” urges Krišjānis, who has been organizing the hackathon for the second year.
Participation in the event is free. More information about “Raccoons” and the application form:
