QUERÉTARO, Qro., July 1, 2023.- The lack of resources was a factor in the fact that the Quivax vaccine, from the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ), did not materialize, for which reason it was recently reported that it will not be mass-produced , noting that the budget was only enough for four prototypes.
After various fundraising campaigns and search for support, only 13 million pesos were raised for its development.
According to the rector, Teresa García Gasca, the UAQ exercised 3 million pesos, of which 503 thousand were applied in 2020 and 2.5 million in 2021.
He also pointed out that it was obtained by a fund of 3.3 million more with the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexid), which added to the 6.6 million raised with the vaccination.
With the resources, materials and reagents, laboratory equipment, complementary services, equipment maintenance, professional fees, laboratory adjustments, and scientific laboratory analysis services were purchased.
Finally, it was detailed that as of June 2023, the UAQ had exercised 12.2 million pesos, leaving 797 thousand pesos to exercise, which are already committed.
