The Quirnsalud Crdoba hospital launches the Nuclear Medicine service – Local News

The Quirónsalud Córdoba hospital has launched the Nuclear Medicine service, unique in the Cordoba private health, which will facilitate the diagnosis of diseases difficult to identify by other techniques and will do so in earlier stages.

The Nuclear Medicine service uses radiopharmaceuticals – drugs that have a small amount of radiation – which, administered to the patient by different routes, are detected by means of a medical imaging equipment, gamma camera, allowing the diagnosis of pathologies that are difficult to identify by other methods. It is a constantly developing specialty for the incorporation of new molecules that allow different diagnoses and treatments and that it cares for both adult patients and children.

The new service is made up of a “prestigious and expert group of professionals“According to the hospital: Doctors Pablo Contreras, Ana Benítez and Mariola Albalá, specialists in Nuclear Medicine, together with the radio pharmaceutical Beatriz López and specialized nurses and technicians, and has a last generation hybrid diagnostic imaging equipment. This service will also do radioguided surgery in Oncology with the selective sentinel lymph node biopsy technique in different tumors such as breast cancer, head and neck cancer, melanoma, vulvar and penile cancer, among others, as well as intraoperative localization of metastatic lesions and tumors, and radioguided surgery in benign lesions such as parathyroid adenomas.

In addition to these diagnostic tests and surgeries, the Nuclear Medicine service, which “is at the disposal of all specialists in Córdoba who need it for the diagnosis of their patients and who can also attend patients in Jaén and other areas”, has several treatments with radiopharmaceuticals to treat pathologies such as hyperthyroidism and inflammatory joint disorders.
